More detail on this person: Died doing what he loved, flying solo in a Cessna 162. Max went to San Francisco State University on a football scholarship and obtained a business degree. He volunteered for Warrant Officer Flight training, graduated with class 67-5 and was sent to Vietnam. He served as a pilot with the 176th AHC out of Duc Pho in I Corps. Max has a passion for Formula 1 race cards and he taught racing skills to celebrities Paul Newman, James Garner, and Steve McQueen at the Bob Bondurant racing school. Max was a life member of the VHPA, VHCMA, DAV, Military Order of the Purple Heart, and the Quiet Birdman where he shared flying with fellow pilots.
