Mitchell Daily News, The (Longview, WA) - Wednesday, March 23, 2011 James Richardson Mitchell, 73, of Longview died March 19, 2011. He was born March 27, 1937, in Russell, Kan., and earned a bachelor of arts degree in accounting from Boise State University. Mr. Mitchell retired from the military after serving in the Army from 1967 to 1970, twice earning the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a member of the 57th Gladiators Association, Knights of Columbus (4th degree) and a master Mason. He enjoyed boating, reading, camping, travel, cars, family gatherings and games. He loved life and his country. Mr. Mitchell was known for his "one day at a time" attitude. He never held back on giving advice, solicited or not. Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife of 29 years, Charlene Mitchell; four children and their spouses; eight grandchildren; a brother, Phillip; as well as nieces and nephews. A rosary will be held at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Catholic Mass at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Rose Catholic Church in Longview. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul.
