More detail on this person: James F. Mahoney, age 76, died August 13, 2017, at the Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA. Born in Darby, PA, he was the son of Frank J. and Mary H. (Dougherty) Mahoney. Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966, Major Mahoney attended Basic Training, AIT, Infantry OCS, and Rotary Wing Flight School. Arriving in Vietnam in July 1968, he served the next nineteen months with A Company Aviation Battalion, 1st Brigade, and B Company 4th Aviation Battalion. Major Mahoney's decorations include Combat Infantryman Badge, Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with six Campaign Stars, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star, twenty-seven air medals, and the Humanitarian Service Medal. Major Mahoney retired from the USAR in 1988, after 23 years of service. James was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Kathleen. He will be greatly missed by his daughter Kieca M. Mahoney, wife of Matthew Dingee, and granddaughter Ursula A. Mahoney Dingee, of Washington DC; sister Margaret J. Andrews of Malvern, PA; and several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at 11AM. The family will begin receiving guests at 10:30AM. Interment with military honors will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Hoover Funeral Home of Hershey is handling the arrangements.
