More detail on this person: James Patrick McCune Funeral service for Chief Warrant Officer (Retired) James Patrick McCune, 82 of Lawton will be at 11:30 A.M. on Monday, August 13, 2012 at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Murray, pastor of Lawton Heights Church of the Nazarene and Frank Hise officiating. Mr. McCune went to be with his Lord and Savior and the love of his life of more than 62 years, Velma on Thursday, August 9, 2012 in Lawton. Burial with full military honors will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Oklahoma. There will be a special viewing and visitation for family and friends on Sunday, August 12th, 2012 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. James was born on February 11, 1930 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Henry E. and Rosa Lee (Dagley) McCune. He joined the United States Army on February 24, 1947 in Fort Lewis, Washington and served his country until his retirement on July 1, 1967. He also served in the United States Army Reserves. While in the military, he served in Vietnam, Germany, Japan and Korea, along with many cities in the US. He received many medals and awards including the National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Occupation Medal, Army Aviator Badge, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Air Medal with thirteen Oak Leaf Clusters. Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Senior Army Aviator Badge, Army Commendation Medal and the Vietnam Defense Campaign Medal. He married the love of his life, Velma Lee Hobbs on September 30, 1950 until Mrs. McCune's passing on June 30, 2012. He is survived by his son, James E. McCune, two daughters and a son in law, Debra Lee Rose and Teresa and Joe Ciprinao; three grandchildren Ryan, Leigh Anna and Nicole; his sister, Leota McCune, his brother, Joe McCune; his sisters in law and brothers in law, Ray and Tommye Hobbs and Pat and Doyle McCune; and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of loving friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Velma.
