More detail on this person: Richard Clark Macahan Ignacio resident Richard Clark Macahan died Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, at his home. He was 66. The cause of death was complications from small cell lung cancer while he was recovering from prostate cancer. Mr. Macahan was born to Clark and Marian Dixon on June 13, 1945, in Berkeley, Calif. His father was in the military, and he grew up all over the world. He served seven years in the Army during the Vietnam War., where he was a helicopter pilot and warrant officer. Mr. Macahan was awarded four Bronze Stars, a Silver Star and a Purple Heart along with several other accommodations. He loved flying, and it was a major part of his life, his family said. He worked as a pilot after he got out of the service in Hawaii, Las Vegas, New Mexico and Colorado as well as several other states. He also was hired to train military pilots in Israel. He also served as a deputy sheriff in New Mexico. Mr. Macahan moved to Southwest Colorado several years ago. On July 1, 2010, he married Georgia Loveday in Ignacio. He loved to fish and hunt. "He had a great respect for the military, his family, and his friends and the people he worked with and counted as friends," his family said. "Richard will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him and were lucky enough to be called his friends." Mr. Macahan is survived by his wife, Georgia Macahan, of Ignacio; daughters Shawn Hartsfield of Colorado Springs and Nicole Dixon of the Carolinas; stepsons Brandon Holley of Ignacio, Shane Countryman-Loveday of Maine and Justin Holley of Texas; brother, Bob Dixon, of California; and several grandchildren. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W. Kenyon Ave., in Denver.
