More detail on this person: Leo John Morawski, 71 Death Notices New Haven Register (CT) - Friday, October 5, 2007 Leo John Morawski, 71, died from cancer, early Sunday, September 30th, at Fort Washington Hospital, Fort Washington, MD. He is survived by his wife Carmen Alfaro-Morawski, a son Michael Morawski of Arlington, VA, a brother David (Betty Lou) Morawski of Madison, and sisters, Margaret King, Valerie (Don) Erickson, and Anne Freund, all of Branford. Also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was born in Branford, April 2, 1936, son of the late Leo J. and Anna Kaminsky Morawski. He graduated from Branford High School in 1954, the University of Maine in 1960 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering, and the University of Virginia. He was a member of Lamba Chi Alpha Social Fraternity, and the American Society of Engineers. After college he served in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam War as a helicopter pilot, with the 33rd Transportation Co. He was awarded the Air Medal with 6 oak leaf clusters. After the war he flew helicopters commercially in Louisiana supporting the offshore oil industry and in South America in support of oil exploration. Much of his flying was over uncharted jungles, and he even flew a small helicopter over the Andes Mountains. He relocated to Washington, D.C. in 1968, and he became an engineer inspector of housing developments in various countries around the world. He was a mechanical cost engineer in many projects, both domestically and international. He founded his own company, Mechanical Cost Consultants, which included cost estimating, value engineering and market research. He was thoroughly familiar with mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, process piping and site utilities. He was also knowledgeable in energy managements, life cycle costing, computerized systems estimating. His experience includes office buildings, hotels, commercial projects, academic facilities, hospitals, health and laboratory facilities, public buildings, correctional institutions, manufacturing plants, transportation facilities and stations, airports, and residential buildings and complexes, military projects, and also site utilities and utility plants and sewage treatment plants. He was a broadly qualified construction consulting engineer with experience in estimating, value engineering, expert testimony, market studies, operations and management, negotiation and inspection. He joined Construction Cost Systems, Inc., in Waldorf, MD in March 2007. He was involved with the Piscataway Hill Association, Potomac Watershed Cleanup, and Ducks Unlimited for Nature Conservation. Funeral from the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Branford Saturday morning at 9:30 with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Therese Church at 10:00. Burial in St. Agnes Cemetery Friends may call prior to the funeral from 8:30 -9:30.
