More detail on this person: Asa McCranie Asa McCranie, age 77, of Cape Coral died April 27, 2005. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Barbara; his daughters, Karen Gustafson of Dacula, GA and Donna Pesch of Cumming, GA; and five grandchildren. He is not away; he echoes into eternity. Asa was born in Knoxville, TN, on December 20, 1927. His family moved to Tampa, FL in 1932 when he was 5 years old. his father and grandfather were both born in Madison, FL and he considered himself a native Florida cracker. He retired from the Army in February 1972 as a Lieutenant Colonel after twenty years as an Army pilot and moved to Cape Coral. During his military service, he served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars and was awarded 9 Air Medals in addition to the Bronze Star. He was stationed in Japan, Germany, Hawaii and the Dominican Republic. He held Airline Transport Pilot and Flight Instructor certificated for Single engine and Multi engine aircraft, Turbo props, Jets, Helicopters and Seaplanes. After retirement, he flew charter flights, ave flight instruction and flew as the Chief Pilot for several corporations until 1994. Memorial services will be held Sunday, May 1, 2005 at 3:00PM in the Chapel of Coral Ridge Funeral Home. Rev. Tommy Rickards will officiate, Family members and friends attending are urged to bring and share stories and memories during the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Hope Hospice, 2430 Diplomat Pkwy. E., Cape Coral, FL 33909.
