More detail on this person: Thomas O. McLellan SIDNEY -- Thomas O. McLellan, 62, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, at his residence with his family by his side. He was born in Waterville on May 29, 1948, the son of Woodrow and Gladys (McKechnie) McLellan Sr. Tom attended local schools, graduating from Williams High School in Oakland, class of 1966. He served four years in the Army, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. While there, he was Chief Warrant Officer II in command of a Huey helicopter flying the colonel to observe ground activity. The devastation he witnessed in that year was more than one might see in a lifetime. Those losses caused him more internal pain than anyone will ever know. Tom was employed for 25 years as a heavy equipment mechanic at Scott Paper Co. (Kimberly Clark) in Winslow prior to its closing in 1998. He then owned and operated McLellan's Garage in Sidney until poor health forced him to close in 2007. His dream job would have been to operate construction equipment rather than repair it. Tom was a compassionate, generous and patient person. His spare time over many decades was spent assisting family and friends in building houses, landscaping, automotive repairs, camping, and boating. He had the gift of recognizing the strengths and potential in others. His most recent years included countless hours loading and manipulating photos into home videos. Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Germaine Ayotte McLellan, of Sidney; his mother, Gladys McLellan, of Sidney; two daughters Lisa Suzanne Folk and husband Mark of Fayette, and Juli Kay Rouillard and husband Brian of Augusta; three stepgrandchildren Hannah, Ean and Faith Rouillard; his siblings are Woodrow McLellan Jr. and wife Chandra, Cookie Luce and husband Floyd, Kathy Hamlin and husband Phil, Frank McLellan and wife Tina, all of Sidney, and Clifton McLellan and companion Constance of San Diego. There are approximately 20 Ayotte in-laws and more than 110 combined nieces and nephews, plus numerous cousins. Friends are invited to visit 2-4 and -9 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 21, at Wheeler Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Oakland. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 22, at Oakland United Baptist Church, Church Street, Oakland. A gathering of friends and family will be held at Le Club Calumet on Route 104 in Augusta immediately following the service.
