Angel Severino Menendez December 1, 1948- July 5, 2011 Fortson, GA- LTC Ret. Angel Severino Menendez, 62, of Fortson, GA died Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Martin Army Community Hospital. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, July 8, 2011 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Dan MacMinn officiating. A private interment will be held at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. LTC Menendez was born December 1, 1948 in Newburg, NY son of Maria Garcia Menendez of San Juan, Puerto Rico and the late Jeronimo Braulio Menendez. He retired from the U.S. Army after 21 years of service serving in Vietnam. He received the following awards during his career: Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Air Medal 9, Air Medal W/V device 2, Army Commendation Medal 2, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, and the Special Forces Tab. After his retirement, he was the owner of Angel Menendez Environmental Services, Inc. Survivors other than his mother include his wife, Manuela Humiston Menendez of Fortson, GA, one daughter, Mari K. Menendez of Columbus, GA, two sons, Michael Jasper and Christopher Jasper both of Columbus, GA, one brother, Manuel J. Menendez and one sister, Mari L. Menendez both of San Juan, Puerto Rico, one grandson, Marshall Menendez Bates of Columbus, GA, mother and father-in-law, Robert and Elka Humiston of Columbus, GA, two sisters-in-law, Brenda Quess of Salem, AL and Arlene Sparrowk of Bethalto, IL, one brother-in-law, Robert Humiston of Columbus, GA, his business partner, Gil Bakshi and his former wife, Kathy Greer of Columbus, GA, and several nieces and nephews. Flowers will be accepted but those so desiring may make memorial donations to the Disabled American Veterans, Fountain City Chapter 56, 230 Airview Dr. Columbus, GA 31903.
