More detail on this person: Morten Meng, 65, of Aledo, passed away Tuesday, September 04, 2012. Morten was born March 11, 1947 in Copenhagen, Denmark to Irene and Walter Meng.

Morten came to America from Denmark as a teenager. He worked to show devotion to this country, became an American citizen and served in Vietnam as a highly decorated combat helicopter pilot who received the Distinguished Flying Cross. In 1981, Morton competed as a USA Team Pilot at the World Helicopter Championship where the team won first place. In 1982, the USA Team was recognized with a display at the Smithsonian's National Air & Space Museum. Mr. Meng continued that noteworthy service by working for Bell Helicopter as an experimental test pilot including his work as a test pilot for the V-22. His many years of service at Bell demonstrated the devotion to our country's defense and national security.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon; daughters, Jennifer Gray and Elizabeth Snyder; four grandchildren and two sisters, Suzanne Behrens and Lisa Hollinger.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
