"Jack" (Husband of Hallye Ray) Fruitport Mr. John "Jack" Charles Moodt, age 75, passed away at his home on Monday, April 26, 2010. He was born May 31, 1934 in Muskegon, MI to John and Grace (Kohlbeck) Moodt. Jack married the former Hallye Ray Leonard June 11, 1955 in Muskegon and she survives him. He was a 30-year career veteran of the U.S. Army, retiring July 31, 1979 as a Chief Warrant Officer-4. During his Army career, he was a paratrooper, a pilot, a maintenance and safety officer. He was stationed at Ft. Rucker, AL, Ft. Benning, GA, Ft. Eustis, VA, served in the Korean War and completed 2 tours in Viet Nam, spent 2 years in Tehran, Iran, and 3 years in Wertheim, Germany. After retiring from the Army, he continued working 15 years as an instructor pilot and retired in August of 1997 as the Director of Safety for the Flight Training Program at Ft. Rucker, AL. He was a member of the Vinh Long Mavericks /Roadrunners Veterans Retirement Group and looked forward to their reunions. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church where he volunteered extensively assisting with maintenance and upkeep of the church. He was a Lifetime member of VFW #8846 - Don Rae Post and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #706. SURVIVORS include his wife of 54 years, Hallye Ray Moodt; 2 sons, Michael R. (and wife, Betty) Moodt of Harker Heights, TX, Joseph P. (and former wife, Grace) Moodt, CSM-Ret., of Clarksville, TN; 2 granddaughters, Sara Marie (and husband, Jeremiah) Doherty stationed at Ft. Rucker, AL, and Michelle Grace (and husband, Sean) Spears stationed at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, GA; and one sister, Phyllis Humphrey of Muskegon, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Esther Beaty; and his in-laws, Joseph and Glennita (Rector) Leonard. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, April 30, 2010 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Anthony M. Pelak as celebrant. Full Military Honors will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. VISITATION with Jack's family will be at 2-4 and 6-8 PM Thursday at The Sytsema Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Avenue (231) 726-5210 The rosary will be prayed at 6:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Mass, 10-11 AM Friday at church. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be directed to Harbor Hospice or the Music Ministry at Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
