More detail on this person: Lt. Col (Ret) Joseph I. Martin Jr Joseph I. Martin Jr. Lt. Col. (Ret) Joseph I. Martin Jr., of Enterprise, Al passed away Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Medical Center Enterprise. He was 85. A Funeral Mass will be said at 11:00am on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at the Saint John Catholic Church with Father Gregory Okorobia officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday beginning at 10:00am and continuing until service time. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to the Saint John Catholic Church, P.O. Box 311066, Enterprise, AL 36331-1066. He was born February 24, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa to the late Major General Joseph I Martin Sr and Margaret Shander Martin. After graduating from West High School in Rockford, Illinois, he entered the U. S. Army in 1944 and earned the rank of Lieutenant Colonel having retired after serving for 24 years. While in the Army, he served during WW II, Korean and Vietnam Wars of which he was awarded a purple heart as well as numerous other awards and medals. Following the war, he earned a BS Degree from the University of Illinois and a MA Degree from Baylor University. He had served as the Administrator at the Army Lyster hospital at Ft. Rucker. While at Fort Rucker, he had volunteered for 20 years teaching in the photo-lab. He was a member of the Saint John Catholic Church. In addition to his parents, 2 sisters, Justine Smith and Dolores Tackett and 2 brothers, Col. George W. Martin and Sgt. Robert Edward Martin all preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Dolores Martin, Enterprise, AL, 2 daughters: Catherine Martin Johnston (Mark), Opelika, AL, Dr. Sandra Elizabeth Martin, Raleigh, N.C., 1 son: Joseph I. Martin III (Dee Ryland), Arvada, Colorado, grandchild: Mikayla Anne Martin and his favorite canine companion, Max
