More detail on this person: Oliver Gene "Mac" McDonald COLONEL, US MARINE CORPS KOREA, VIETNAM Mac was born in Washington, D.C. the only son of Oliver Paul McDonald and Loretta Santymire of Paw Paw, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Willa Jean McDonald. He is survived by one son, John D. McDonald; one daughter, Patricia A. Shelton, five grandsons and eleven great grandchildren. He was a resident of Pensacola, FL for over twenty years after retiring from a thirty year career in the USMC. He began his military career in Pensacola, completing flight training in 1951. During his career he flew jets in Japan and Korea, transitioning to helicopters for two tours in Viet Nam and service as executive officer of HMX1at Quantico, VA where he flew Presidents Johnson and Nixon. Immediately following his retirement in San Clemente, CA he completed his PhD at UCLA, worked as a consultant for McDonald Douglas Aircraft and taught management information systems for UCLA. After moving to Pensacola he became very active in the Vintage Thunderbird Club International serving as concourse director. At his request a private family ceremony was held Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Barrancas National Cemetery at NAS, Pensacola
