More detail on this person: Daniel E Mcjunkin, 61 Daniel E. McJunkin Houston Chronicle (TX) - Thursday, December 15, 2005 TX United States DANIEL E. MCJUNKIN passed away on Monday, December 12, 2005. Dan was born March 4, 1944 in Topeka, Kansas. He was the son of Mac and Joanne McJunkin. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1966 at which time he also received his commission as Second Lieutenant, USMC. He received his wings the following year at US Naval Air Training Command in Pensacola, FL. and was promoted to Captain in 1969. While in the service , Dan was awarded the Air Medal and Distinguished Flying Cross for service in Vietnam. He was a distinguished helicopter pilot not only in his military service, but also for the Gulf Coast oil industry and flying life flight missions for hospitals in Cincinnati and Indianapolis. His love of flying led him to build his own custom helicopter. Dan was an avid sportsman. No sport escaped himbaseball, football, wrestling, rollerblading, golfing, sailing, hiking, and kite flying. He built his own recumbent bike. As a semi retired professional homebuilder, Dan was known to many as the Woodlands House Doctor. As Master of surprises and Minister of Fun, Dan had an amazing passion for life and the people in his life. Dan's first love was his family. He was absolute in his devotion to his wife, daughter and son-in-law, grandsons, and all who knew him. His life serves as an inspiration and example to others. He is survived by Karen, his high school sweetheart and wife of 40 years; their daughter Brenda and son-in-law, Allen Wilson of Amsterdam; his mother, Joanne; sister, Judy and her family, and brother, John. In addition, he is survived by two grandsons; Alexander Daniel and Michael James Wilson. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Dan McJunkin will be held at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home Chapel, Friday, December 16 at 2:00 PM. Immediately following will be a reception. In lieu of flowers and to best commemorate the life of Dan, the family ask that you donate to your local Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program.
