More detail on this person: Jack McMullin passed away on Sept. 8, 2010, at the age of 79. He was born on April 3, 1931, in Batavia to Robert H. McMullin and Audrey More McMullin. Jack grew up on his parent's farm in South Eastern Iowa, where he was the eldest of seven children. He attended schools in Iowa, graduating from Agency High School in 1948. In 1951, he joined the United States Marine Corps. Jack married Mary McFall of Batavia on April 11, 1952, at Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Fla. Jack retired from the Marine Corps in October 1976, stationed at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, Calif., as aircraft avionics/maintenance officer with the rank of captain. Jack went to work for Kyle Technologies in Mission Viejo, Calif., and Roseburg in 1982 as vice president of quality assurance, retiring in 1993. Jack was a lifetime member of the Marine Corp League Detachment #1089, Roseburg, Military Order of the Devil Dogs, PDD of Rogue Valley, VFW Post #3970, Sutherlin and MOAA, 50-year member of Masonic Order of Iowa, Kilwinning Lodge #198, member of Elks Lodge #326 serving as tiler, North Roseburg Rotary Club, Marine Corps Association and American Legion. A few of Jack's favorite activities were reading Western novels, writing cowboy poetry, woodworking and aviation; he held a private pilot's license. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Richard and James. Survivors include his wife Mary; two sons, David and Dennis(Paulette)McMullin; brother Neal(Cheryl)McMullin; sisters Cheryl(Don)Timmins, Nancy(Wyman)Webb and Connie(Maz)Rupe; sister-in-law Ann McMullin, all of Iowa; granddaughters, Christina, Sondra, Monica and Erika McMullin; and eight great-grandchildren. Graveside services for Jack will be 1pm Friday, Sept. 24, with military rites at the Roseburg National Cemetery. Marine Corps League Department of Oregon Commandant Jim Hewitt officiating. The family request any memorial donations be made to the Roseburg VA Healthcare, Att: Voluntary Services, 913 NW Garden Valley Blvd., Roseburg, Ore. 97471, specify TCU Hospice in honor of Jack McMullin or charity of your choice in his honor. Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor's Family Chapel.
