I served under Major Metcalf in 1969 with the 176th AHC. I remember during the summer of 1969 he lead the mission to recover elements of the 196th LIB who were outnumbered and under a large scale attack off of LZ Center. Numerous helicopters had been shot down or damaged earlier in the day yet without hesitation Major Metcalf flew the lead helicopter to get the infantry unit out of their impossible position. Major Metcalf was highly regarded by all the soldiers of the 176th. Left by David Baker on 17 Sep 2010
