More detail on this person: Donald Edward Mulligan OBITUARIES Gazette, The (Colorado Springs, CO) - Sunday, November 30, 2003 January 17, 1929 ~ November 25, 2003 Donald Edward Mulligan passed away in Colorado Springs on November 25, 2003. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1929 to Joseph and Margaret Mulligan, he enlisted in the US Army after high school, and served his country with distinction and honor for thirty years. Through two wars, he garnered many awards and medals, including a Purple Heart, Master Army Aviator Badge, Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with a Gold Star. He retired with the rank of Colonel, earning both a Bachelor and a Master's degree while in service. He was a kind and courageous man, and was a loving husband to Diane Mulligan for fifty-two years. They were married in 1951 soon after his enlistment, in Ft. Rucker, Alabama. He was also a caring and committed father to son Steven and daughter Julia, offering encouragement and support to both throughout their childhood and adult lives. Donald was also a doting grandfather, deeply devoted to Alyssa Mulligan, his only grandchild. After retiring from the military, he embarked on a second career with the City of Colorado Springs, working as Superintendent of Water Treatment and Distribution for eighteen years. During this tenure, he taught himself the many fine points that apply to water treatment and delivery, and developed many new friends in the utilities department. Donald Mulligan will be missed by many, and his family feels his loss deeply. Services will be held at Swan Law Funeral Home, 501 North Cascade, on Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at 9:00 a.m. A military service will be held at Fort Logan Military Cemetery at noon on the same day, Gate B.
