Lt. 2 Col. George D. McFeely of Malvern Borough, Chester County, <-- 3 who died on April 10, 2001. 4 WHEREAS, Ret. Lt. Col. George Dale McFeely was born in New 5 Eagle Borough, Washington County, enlisted in the United States 6 Army in 1959, became a Green Beret and completed two tours of 7 duty in Vietnam as an armed helicopter pilot; and 8 WHEREAS, Following his tours in Vietnam, Ret. Lt. Col. 9 McFeely served as an instructor at the Aberdeen Proving Ground 10 in Maryland, completed the Career Army Officer's Course at Fort 11 Benning, Georgia, and was assigned as a helicopter platoon 12 leader at Fort Dix, New Jersey, prior to retiring from active 13 military duty in 1978; and 14 WHEREAS, Ret. Lt. Col. McFeely remained in the reserves until 15 1991; and 16 WHEREAS, During his military service, Ret. Lt. Col. McFeely 17 earned numerous decorations, including the Bronze Star, Purple 18 Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross and other air medals; and ________________________________________ 1 WHEREAS, RET. LT. COL. MCFEELY ALSO EARNED THE SILVER STAR <-- 2 FOR LIFESAVING ACTIONS IN THE FACE OF ENEMY FIRE ON MARCH 26, 3 1967, WHEN HE LED A HELICOPTER COMBAT SUPPORT TEAM THAT 4 EVACUATED MEMBERS OF THREE DOWNED HELICOPTER CREWS NEAR VINH 5 LONG. HE THEN LED A SECOND RESCUE EFFORT FOR A REMAINING INJURED 6 CREW MEMBER. HE FLEW HIS CREW AND THE INJURED SERVICEMEN BACK TO 7 A UNITED STATES BASE DIRECTLY OVER THE ENEMY'S POSITION; AND 8 WHEREAS, Ret. Lt. Col. McFeely died in Malvern HIS MALVERN <-- 9 HOME, Chester County, on April 10, 2001, at 61 years of age; and 10 WHEREAS, RET. LT. COL. MCFEELY IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE, <-- 11 PATRICIA L. KLAFFKY MCFEELY, TO WHOM HE WAS MARRIED FOR 32 12 YEARS, AND BY A DAUGHTER, JEANNE B. KIRSCHNER, TWIN SONS, 13 STEPHEN D. MCFEELY AND MARK R. MCFEELY AND A BROTHER, MORTON 14 MCFEELY; AND 15 WHEREAS, Ret. Lt. Col. McFeely led a distinguished military 16 career and is an outstanding example of a citizen of this 17 Commonwealth whose life is worthy of formal recognition by the 18 House of Representatives; therefore be it 19 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives pay respect to 20 the distinguished military service of Ret. Lt. Col. George D. 21 McFeely of Malvern Borough, Chester County, who died on April <-- 22 10, 2001.
