More detail on this person: Miller, Vard Langdon Jr. 80, of Sun City West passed away on September 18, 2015. Lt. Commander Vard Langdon Miller, Jr.: An appreciation. Vard Miller served his country and others throughout his 80 years. Born in Columbus, Ohio in 1935, Vard's family eventually settled in Fort Worth, Texas. Vard joined theU.S. Navy in 1955 and served for over 20 years primarily as a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War and finally Naval Recruiting. After his retirement, Vard worked for the IRS in Phoenix and Prescott. Vard also volunteered for many organizations including the Lions, the Library, and his Church where he was a board member. He gave homes to many shelter dogs, and contributed to many charities. A lifelong sports fan, he loved his San Diego Padres and Chargers. Vard passed away on September 18. He is survived by his four children, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. All of us will miss him very much. A celebration of his life will be at Unity of Surprise on October 17 at 11:00 a.m., 14495 West R.H. Johnson Blvd, Sun City West, AZ 85375. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Arizona Humane Society.
