More detail on this person: John Brooks Nelson WHITEHOUSE STATION -- John Brooks Nelson entered into eternal life on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009 at his home here in Readington Township. He was 61. He was born on Nov. 20, 1947 in Tarboro, N.C. to Robert A. and Sallie (Brooks) Nelson. John faithfully served his country in the Army's 101st Airborne Division and served in Vietnam as a scout helicopter pilot. He achieved the rank of chief warrant officer. Upon completion of his active duty and the receipt of his honorable discharge, John attended East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C. where he received his degree in industrial and general psychology. In 1976, he married Carol and they relocated to the Northeast, eventually moving to Raritan Township. They settled in Readington Township six years ago. He was the founder and CEO of Media Marketing Services of Flemington. John was a proud father of his two sons, Robert and Ryan and became very involved in their youth sport activities including soccer, baseball and swimming. His company was also a sponsor of many local sport teams. John enjoyed golf, traveling, reading and spending time at the Carolina shore, where he and his family would make annual treks to visit his family and friends. John was also active in his community and church. He had served as a senior warden at Calvary Episcopal Church in Flemington and a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Somerville. He was a member of Copper Hill and Stanton Ridge country clubs. John leaves behind his beloved wife Carol; his two adored sons, Robert Nelson of Philadelphia and Ryan Nelson at home; and his dear brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Marsha Nelson of Henderson, N.C. He will be deeply missed by his loving foster family, Peter, Penny, Patti and Polly Price and also by many cherished nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 6. Relatives and friends can begin gathering at 9:30 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, 158 W. High St., Somerville, for the 10 a.m. funeral service.
