More detail on this person: John J. 'Jack' Negro Jr. IRONWOOD, Mich. -- John J. "Jack" Negro Jr., 65, of Wakefield, passed away in Ironwood, with his loving family at his side on Monday, May 23, 2011. He was born Aug. 22, 1945, at Grand View Hospital, the son of Grace (Anderson) and John Negro Sr. Jack graduated from Wakefield High School in 1963 and then went on to receive a bachelor of science degree in industrial arts from Stout State University. He taught one year of high school in Clintonville, Wis., before enlisting in the U.S. Army. Jack attended flight school in Fort Wolters, Texas, and Fort Rucker, Ala., and obtained a commercial pilot's license. He was stationed in Fort Campbell, Ky., for one year and was then stationed in Korea for the rest of his service as a Chief Warrant Officer II Aviator flying Huey helicopters in the 38th Artillery Brigade USARPAC-Korea. He was a lifetime member of the Wakefield American Legion Post 11 and Wakefield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9084. After serving in the Army, Jack was still able to enjoy his love of flying with his own airplane. He spent the rest of his working career as a welder and welding inspector in construction and belonged to the United Association of Welders Local 806. Jack retired in 2004 to enjoy staying at his cottage with his dogs, Miko and Champ, and traveling to Arizona in the winter to be with friends and play his accordion. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Daniel, in Vietnam; and an infant sister, Mary. He is survived by his brother, Leslie (Mari), Hermansville; a son, Daniel (Jackie), Shawano, Wis.; three daughters, Terri Negro, Wakefield, Lisa (Keith) Franke, Durand, Ill., and Mandy (Chris) Lake, Wakefield; his grandsons; two aunts, Dorie (Wilbur) Olson and Mary Anderson; and nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, May 28, from 9 to 11 a.m., at All Saints Lutheran Church, in Wakefield, with the honor guard beginning at 10:15 a.m. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Bill Jacobson officiating. A reception will be held in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery with a military graveside service under the auspices of American Legion Post 11 and VFW Post 9084.
