Nelson Jr., United States Air Force Retired, passed away January 24, 2009 at the age of 79. He was born October 17,1929 in Leavenworfh, Kansas to Fred E. Sr. and Susie Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Elsie Travers. Survivors include his wife, Thelma "Tam" Nelson; children, Fred E. Nelson III (Lisa), Kim K. Wallace (Ross), Cary M. Nelson, Kristi L. Stevenson (Jay) and Jill R. Brady (Brian), 8 grandchildren; Jaime, Chad, Kiera, Jason, Cody, Neesa, Seamus & Cavan and 2 great grandchildren, Lilian & Kayden. He served in the United States Air Force from 1947 to 1974. He was awarded the Silver Star and the Bronze Star. His last duty station at Randolph AFB he was Military Officer over Army, Air Force Commisary Base Exchanges. After retirement he was self-employed as a Tax Preparer and Bookkeeper for 25 years. Major Nelson was a member of the Masonic Bellevue Lodge No. 325 A.F. & A.M. in Bellevue, Nebraska The Family wishes to express a special thanks to Dr. John Linfoot, Dr. Neil McMullin ,the Nursing Staff of BAMC SICU South and Paramont Nursing Home. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 28, 2009 from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Colonial Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 29, 2009 at 8:30 A.M. and the procession will depart the funeral home for interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Schertz EMS 1400 Schertz Parkway, Schertz, Texas 78154 or Intrepid Fallen Hero Fund, 1 Intrepid Square W46th Street & 12th Avenue New York, New York 10036. This supports our troops at BAMC, Ft. Sam Houston.
