More detail on this person: Robert Owen Nelson passed away May 14, 2017, following a courageously, brave fight with Leukemia. Bob was born April 10, 1945 in Quincy, Mass and grew up in Lakeville, MA. He graduated from Apponequet Regional High School where he was an all-star athlete and continued his athletics playing baseball at Colby College. Bob received his BA in Political Science from Colby College in Waterville, Maine. He studied in the International Relations program at the University of Southern California and completed his Master's Degree in Business at Gonzaga University. Bob joined the United States Air Force in 1967, completed Officers Training School in June, 1968, and completed pilot training, earning his wings in August, 1969. He served two tours in Vietnam flying helicopters, tankers and fighter jets. Following an 11 year Air Force career, Bob became a pilot for United Airlines before entering the investment business 1980. He started an investment firm, Nelson Securities, in 1983, and also served as President of the Spokane Stock Exchange which he moved from the Peyton Building to the SeaFirst Building in 1987. Additionally, Bob opened Nelson Securities offices in Florida and San Diego, CA and for the last several years, he split his time between the offices in Spokane and San Diego. Bob is preceded in death by his father Alfred Stanley (Stan) Nelson, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Megan (Jankovsky), and their beloved dog Tucker; his children: (Rob) Robert Owen Nelson, Jr. (Ann) of San Diego, CA, and Betsy Nelson Norsen (Curtis) of Bend, OR; his first wife, Gail Hall Gibson (Wayne); his mother, Jean Owen Nelson, Spokane Valley, WA; brother (Bud) Alfred Stanley Nelson III (Sandra), Grass Valley CA; grandchildren: Aidan, Jack, Tate Nelson and Harper Norsen. Bob's dynamic, warm, energetic and contagiously fun personality lit up every room he entered. He will forever be missed by those he loved, along with those he entertained with his tremendous hospitality, as well as the many friends he golfed with at the Kalispell Golf and Country Club. The family wishes to thank Dr. Danko Martincic and Cancer Care Northwest and the staff of Sacred Heart Hospital, in particular the Oncology Department for the total dedication and care for Bob. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to T-Cell Leukemia Lymphoma Foundation: TCLLF, PO Box 22418, Seattle, WA 98122. A Memorial and Celebration of Bob's life will be held at 5PM, on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at the Kalispell Golf and Country Club. -
