More detail on this person: Dennis Eugene Newport (Ret. LT col. US Army) Dennis Eugene Newport age 74, passed away peacefully Sunday January 20, 2008 at Potomac Hospital in Woodbridge. Mr. Newport was born January 21, 1933 in Tennessee and was the son of the late Howard and Etha (Cross) Newport. He moved to McAllen, Texas when he was about 12 years old. He attended the University of Texas. He joined the Army in 1954 and served for 21 years. In his military career he was an Army Aviator. Among many military service awards, he received two Bronze Stars in Vietnam. He flew Helicopters for Haile Selassie I, the King of Ethiopia, and was honored by the King for saving close family members lives in the desert. He became a hero in the eyes of his two little brothers, brother in law and his son. After retiring from the Army, he moved his family to Woodbridge in 1968, and managed the Airfield at Quantico Marine Base. He then worked at Cameron Station in Alexandria for the USA Aeronautical Service Office. He later transferred to the FAA until he retired in 1998. Survivors include his wife of years 54 years, Carol Newport of Woodbridge; one son Keith and his wife Kitty of Woodbridge; two brothers, William Newport and his wife Pat of Terrel, Texas and Bruce Newport and his wife Diane of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Jessica and Dennis Newport, both of Woodbridge. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM Thursday January 24, 2008 at the Mountcastle Funeral Home in Dale City. Deacon Gary Marsh will conduct funeral services at 1:00 PM Friday January 25, 2008 at the Mountcastle Funeral Home in Dale City. The burial will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday March 5, 2008 at the Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 61 Broadway, New York, New York 10006.
