More detail on this person: O'CONNOR Charles J., of Glen Rock, NJ passed away on, Thursday, February 14, 2008, at the age of 62, after a courageous battle against Pancreatic Cancer. Charles was born in Plainfield, NJ to Rita and Charles O'Con-nor on January 28, 1946. He and his identical twin brother, Michael, spent their childhood assisting their father in the O'Connor family's supermarkets. He graduated from Essex Catholic High School in 1963 and received his Bachelor's Degree from Seton Hall University. Charles served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1970. In December 1967, Charles married Kathleen at St. Bernard's Church in Plainfield, NJ. One month later, he was sent to Vietnam where he was an Aircraft Commander of a UH-1 Helicopter and the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross Award and an Air Medal with forty-seven clusters. Charles served in the National Guard for eighteen years which inc-luded five years as a flight ins-tructor technician. He retired as a Major, US Army, after twenty four years of service. He also spent thirty years emp-loyed at Jet Aviation, where he proudly held the title of Chief Pilot for the Merrill Lynch account for twenty-seven years. Charles was a resident of Glen Rock, NJ for twenty nine years. He loved flying, cooking, making people laugh and all things Irish. He is survived by his wife Kathleen, his daughter, Deir-dre of Jersey City, NJ, his son, Rory of Chicago, IL, his mot-her Rita of Albuquerque, NM, his identical twin brother, Michael of Pennington, NJ and his sisters, Rita O'Connor of Waxhaw, NC and Dorothy Roman of Albuquerque, NM. He is pre-deceased by his father, Charles and sister, Mary O'Connor. He also leaves beh-ind a large and loving exten-ded family network. The Family will receive relatives and friends Sunday 2-6 PM at Vander Plaat Colon- ial Home, Inc., 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn, NJ, (201-797-3500). A Funeral Mass is planned for Monday, February 18, 2008, 11 AM at St. Bernard's Church, 1235 George Street, Plainfield, NJ 07062. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Charles may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 2141 Rosecrans Avenue, Suite 7000, El Segundo, CA 90245, (www.pancan.org/donate).
