Oksa Reino Oscar Oksa, 81, of Basye, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in Woodstock. Mr. Oksa was born Nov. 2, 1928, in Middle Grove, N.Y., son of the late Onni and Saimi Helin Oksa. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and Vietnam. He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, west of Mount Jackson. Mr. Oksa is survived by his wife, Hannelore Oksa; a daughter, Tonya Lynne Kipple of Poulsho, Wash.; a sister and two brothers, Katri Oksa, Aarne Oksa and Carl Edholm, all of New York; four grandchildren, Joel and wife, Erin, and son, Javan Kipple, Bethany Balkus and husband, Steven, Brittany Kipple and Micah Kipple. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Grace United Church of Christ with the Rev. Robert Harmon officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Church Cemetery with military honors by Fort Belvoir. Pallbearers will be Tom Oksa, Chuck Lalone, Carl Edholm, Aarne Oksa, James Zerkel II, Robert Frye and Larry Pirtle. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Mount Jackson. Memorial contributions may be made to Rotary Foundation, 14280 Collections Center Drive, Chicago, IL 60693, or Grace United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 115, Mount Jackson, VA 22842. He served his country honorably in both the Coast Guard and Army for more than 25 years. He was active in the Rotary International, had his own tax service and remained a vital part of his community. He made us laugh often and regaled us with his old soldier stories. He was loved. ... He will be missed dearly.
