More detail on this person: Glendon Edward Oldefendt MISSOULA - Glendon Edward Oldefendt, 84, of Missoula, died of cardiac arrest Sunday, July 31, 2005, while in Community Medical Center after undergoing emergency abdominal surgery. Glen was born Jan. 17, 1921, in Hope, Minn., to Edward and Ethel Oldefendt. He worked on the family farm until the age of 21, when he joined the military. On May 12, 1944, he married Margaret Louise Parsons of Owatonna, Minn. They were stationed abroad in Midway Island and Germany, as well as numerous locations in the States throughout his career. Glen was also a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He received the Legion of Merit and numerous other decorations before retiring as a full colonel in 1970 after 28 years of distinguished service to our country. Upon retirement, Glen and his family moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., and he began his second career working for the city of Tempe. After completing 10 years of service with the city, he fully retired, and he and Peggy moved to Missoula, where they have lived for the past 23 years. Glen was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2002 and underwent surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. After an extended recovery, including six months in California at an assisted living facility near his sons, he returned home to Montana in 2004. Glen was active in the community and was a life member of the Elks Lodge and was a Mason and a Shriner. Survivors include his wife, Peggy; his three sons, Tom of Dana Point, Calif., John of San Mateo, Calif., and Karl of Oshkosh, Wis.; as well as six grandchildren. A memorial service to commemorate Glen's life will be held in Owatonna on Aug 15. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Missoula Senior Citizens Center where Glen was an active member and volunteer. Donations may be sent in his name to the Missoula Senior Citizens Center, 705 S. Higgins Ave., Missoula, MT 59801.
