More detail on this person: Michael Lee Olroyd, 69, of Pensacola, Florida, passed away on Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, in Pensacola.

Loving husband to Anne Auner Olroyd; father of Katy (Eric) Clark and Carrie Akins; grandfather of Bridget, Harrison Clark, Avery and Cole Akins; and brother to Sandra Acree. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Beulah and Loyce Olroyd.

Mike graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1963 and from Illinois College in 1973 serving as an Army helicopter pilot and flight instructor in the intervening years. Mike was a salesman for several chemical companies before "retiring" to pursue his passion - woodworking. He owned his own carpentry business until the time of his death.

Mike and Anne were active members of their church, the First United Methodist Church of Pensacola, where Mike was especially active in the church's VBS, constructing all of the elaborate sets for the main stage activities. Mike also headed up the church's Restore and Repair committee which oversees the maintenance of the 200-year-old structures.

Memorial services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Pensacola, Florida. An online memorial website has been set up at www.legacy.com (search for Olroyd) where friends and family can share their fondest memories of Mike. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in his memory to: Southeastern Rett Syndrome Alliance, 7564 Windsong Dr., Trussville, AL 35173-1898.
