More detail on this person: He was born August 26, 1937 in Kosciusko, Mississippi where he lived until he joined the Army at age 17. He was in MP's, diesel engine repair, Special Forces, and then became a helicopter pilot starting with flight class 67-3 and graduating with class 67-5. He did two tours in Vietnam on a Special Forces A Team. Then two tours in Vietnam flying Huey gunships. He was wounded on his first tour and evaced after four months, but was in Vietnam for one full term flying on MZ Reconnaissance. Joe retired from the Army 30 October 1974 after 20 years service. He went to work for Petroleum Helicopter in Lafayette, Louisiana and worked there from November 1974 to March 1994. he then decided to become a commercial truck driver and was working for Royster Enterprises in Ashland, Alabama when he was killed on January 8 1997 driving home from work on a stormy night. He was a resident of Lineville, Alabama. He is survived by his wife Mary Evelyn, five children Joey, Jeff, Jessica, James, Jenny and eight grandchildren. He was loved by all especially Roland Mitchell and Art Stevenson.
