More detail on this person: Colonel William H Or Bill Ott, 52 Ott received honors for military service San Antonio Express-News (TX) - Thursday, June 2, 1994 Col. William H. "Bill" Ott had a 30-year Army career that included two tours of duty in Vietnam and Germany. Ott, 52, died Saturday of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma at Brooke Army Medical Center. The Waco native retired from the military recently, with his last assignment being deputy chief of staff for training for the 6th Army, headquartered at the Presidio of San Francisco. Ott attended Baylor University and joined the Army in 1963. He earned his commission as an officer a year later at the Artillery School at Fort Sill, Okla. He later earned a bachelor's degree at Cameron University in Lawton, Okla., and a master's from Central Michigan University. Ott also had degrees from the Command and General Staff College and the National War College. Among the awards Ott earned were the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star and others from foreign allies. Survivors include his wife, Sue; son, William Ott Jr.; daughter, Dana; and brother, Richard. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday in the New Post Chapel at Fort Sill. Burial will be in the Fort Sill Cemetery.
