More detail on this person: Charles Alan Phillips Charles Alan Phillips, 53, of Hickory, died May 22, 2001, at Catawba Memorial Hospital. Born April 20, 1948, in Burke County, he was a son of Delloria "Tiny" Knox Phillips Willis of Hickory and the late James M. Phillips. He retired as an air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration in Jacksonville, Fla. He was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Leon Phillips; and a grandson, Thomas Cody Phillips. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas S. and Tammie Phillips of Monroe; a daughter and son-in-law, Caroline and Butch Clarke of Byron, Ga.; a brother, James "Jim" M. Phillips Jr. of Hickory; a sister, Ann Leonhardt of Vale; three grandsons, Robert Logan Phillips and David Owen Phillips of Monroe and Casey Soles of Byron, Ga.; and two granddaughters, Alexis Rae Phillips of Monroe and Kaley Clarke of Byron, Ga. The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. C.L. Simmons at 9 a.m. Friday at Longview Church of God. Burial will be in Veterans Affairs Cemetery in Black Mountain.
