More detail on this person: Col. (Ret.) Robert "Rip" Phillips Col. (Ret.) Robert "Rip" Phillips, 78, of Hot Springs Village, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2011, at an area hospital. He was born June 29, 1933, in Jasper Ark to Guy R. Phillips and Margaret Hancock Phillips. Rip was a graduate of Jasper High School, received a BS from Arkansas Tech and a master's degree from the University of Missouri, Kansas City, MO. He was a Colonel (Ret.) in the US Army, serving in Korea and the Viet Nam War. His numerous medals include: Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, Legions of Merit, Master Army Aviator, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (Viet Nam), National Defense Service and Medalha da pacificadora from the Brazilian government. After his military service, Rip was senior V.P. for First State Bank, Springdale, AR. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, genealogy and lawn bowling. Rip was a member of MOAA, VFW, American Legion, DAV and Sacred Heart Men's Club. He is predeceased by his parents, and an infant son, Peter Phillips. Rip is survived by his wife of 54 years, Toni Phillips of Hot Springs Village; sons, Gregory (Caroleen) Phillips of Wenatchee, WA and Geoffrey (Barbara)
