More detail on this person: Ronald M Pennington PENNINGTON, RONALD MILTON, U.S. NAVY COMMANDER-RET., 75, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011. The Wilmington, Ohio native attended Ohio University before fighting for his country in the Vietnam War, achieving the Bronze Star and 16 air medals. He was a Navy pilot and instructor, and was a member of the U.S. Navy Cadet Choir. After retirement, Ron and his family moved to Montgomery, AL, where they lived until relocating to Birmingham 10 years ago. Ron was a devoted family man, and enjoyed golf and card games. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Erma Pennington. Survivors include Ron's wife, Betty Jean Pennington; son and daughter-in-law, James R. "Rick" and Jacqueline Pennington; 2 granddaighters, Kelly O. Pennington and her husband, Joseph Spafford, and Alexandra N. Pennington; brother, David Pennington. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL. The private graveside service and burial will follow at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars, Birmingham, AL.
