More detail on this person: Patrick "PJ" Roths Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Martin & Castille's La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette, LA for Patrick "PJ" Roths, age 69. Reverend William Schambough, Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milton, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass. His memory will be cherished by his wife of 48 years, Jeanette Walker Roths; his son, Doug Roths and wife Laurel; his daughter, Heather Long and husband Scott; his grandchildren, Valerie, Amelia and Bethany Long; his sisters, Jackie Crownover, Lisa Willis, and Babs Gallagher; his mother in law, Lola Walker, and numerous other close family members and friends. Patrick James William Roths, "PJ", born May 5, 1947, peacefully ended his struggle with Carcinoid Cancer on Thursday, September 29, 2016, at Ochsner Medical Center in Kenner, Louisiana. PJ was born in Ransom, KS, but spent most of his young life in Kansas City. School attendance included St. Benedict's grade school and Bishop Ward High School. PJ was a proud alumnus of Kansas Newman University, where he earned a degree in English Literature. After marrying his high school sweetheart, Jeanette Walker, PJ became both a helicopter pilot and the father of two children. His love of flying began during Army flight school and continued through his service in Vietnam and a 40-year career flying for PHI in the Gulf of Mexico. PJ's loves included his family, music and literature, wood carving, hunting, canoeing, camping, and remaining close to the guys of the 174th Aviation Co. In addition to being a loving husband and father, PJ's life was filled with the joy of being a grandpa to his "three girlies." He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Phyllis VanDegrift Roths; his father in law, Les Walker; and his brother, Mike Roths. The family requests that visitation be observed at Martin & Castille's Southside location on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until the time of service. A Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday at 7:00 PM. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests that those preferring memorial contributions may send them to the Neuroendocrine Cancer Awareness Network (NCAN) in memory of Patrick "PJ" Roths. A heartfelt appreciation is extended to all of the doctors and nurses who cared for PJ during his courageous struggle with cancer and to all family and friends for their love and support.
