More detail on this person: Richard Arthur Rubiolo Funeral services for Richard Arthur Rubiolo, 61, of New Brockton were conducted Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at 10 a.m., at St. John Catholic Church in Enterprise, with Father Hugh Maguire officiating. Arrangements were handled by Searcy Funeral Home. Mr. Rubiolo died Saturday, April, 15, at home. He was born in San Francisco, Calif. on Feb. 27, 1939 to Alyce Gertrude Stickney Rubiolo and Alfred Paul Rubiolo Sr. He moved to Paradise, Calif. with his family in 1947 and graduated from Chico High School in 1956. "Rube," as he was affectionately known, joined the National Guard at 14, graduated high school at 16, and joined the Army at 17. He left the Army in early 1960 and worked for the Chico Enterprise Record as an apprentice printer. In 1961 he married Susan West of Paradise. He re-enlisted in the Army and he and his family spent the next 20 years traveling. He retired in 1982 as a Chief Warrant Officer Four. He received his bachelor's degree from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in 1972 and his master's degree in education from Troy State University in 1987. During his years in the Army, he served in Alaska, Hawaii and Europe, with three tours to Vietnam. He graduated flight school in 1963 and spent most of his Army career as a maintenance officer and test pilot attached to Flight Detachments in the U.S. and Europe. Rube was a charter member of the "Weevil City Cruisers" Car Club and was classic car aficionado. Along with his love for restoring old cars, he was also an avid pool player. He was an active member of St. John Roman Catholic Church in Enterprise, where he served on the Parish Council and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Working through Knights of Columbus, he was diligent in his efforts to provide support for people in need in Coffee County. This past year he was active with the United Way/Food Bank's "Brown Bag" program which helps elderly residents with groceries each month. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Sue of New Brockton; two sons, Anthony of Enterprise and Michael of Panama City Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Dina of Arcata, Calif., and Kimberly and her husband, Michael of Gloucester, Va.; three grandchildren, Katharine, Megan and Michael Amanda of Gloucester; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Jerri and Frank Hall of Gridley, Calif., and Jan and Gene Ley of Rohnert, Calif.; several nieces and nephews; and many loving friends. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the United Way Food Bank in Dothan.
