Roth, 78, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, in St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, Ga. Ret. Lt. Col. Roth was born Aug. 30, 1924, in Chattanooga, the son of the late Barney L. Roth Sr., and Ruby McGowan. He was retired from the U.S. Army after 24 years of service. After retirement, Mr. Roth worked for the Civil Service in the Labor and Energy departments. He had lived in Columbus for the past 11 years. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Roth of Columbus; two sons, Ron (Renee) Roth of Fortson, Ga., and Douglas Roth of Columbus; one daughter, Kathleen (Mark) Olson of San Pedro, Calif.; four grandchildren, Rachel Roth of Miami, Fla., Adam Olson, Amy Olson and Erin Wetmore of San Pedro; one brother, Barney L. Roth Jr. of Chattanooga. Funeral services were held with military honors were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002 at Morningside Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Shorey officiating. Interment was in Main Post Cemetery, Fort Benning, Ga. Arrangements by Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road, Columbus, Ga.
