More detail on this person: William R. Rittenhouse of Burke, Va., passed away on August 24, 2015 of lung cancer at his home with his sisters, Donna Marques and Vicki Williams, brother-in-law Eugene Marques and his wife with him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garnet and Hornor Rittenhouse.

Born in Walkersville, West Virginia, Bill graduated from West Virginia University and entered the Army in 1961. He was an aviation troop commander in Viet Nam, a battalion commander in Fort Knox, KY, and the program manager of the M-1 tank in Detroit.

He graduated from flight school in 1964, the Infantry Advanced Course in 1969, the MBA program at William and Mary in 1973, Command and General Staff College in 1972, and the National War College in 1984. Other assignments included Fort Hood, TX; Ascaffenberg, Germany; Fort Lewis, WA and the Pentagon.

His medals include the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross (2 OLC), Bronze Star Medal-Valor, Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), Air Medal, Air Medal-Valor, Army Commendation Medal (1 OLC), National Defense Service Medal, and the Viet Nam Service Medal.

After his retirement from the Army Bill continued to work as a contractor for BRTRC in Headquarters, Army Materlel Command and in Special Operations Command

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sandy and his daughter, Ginger.
