More detail on this person: John "David" Redmon died on October 27, 2016 at the age of 73. Born to Lubie and Odessa Redmon on July 15, 1943 in Houston, Texas, he lived there until moving to Corpus Christi to attend college and subsequently joining the Army. David was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Everyone who knew him was charmed by his simple elegance, generosity, integrity, intellect, and wisdom. He was an avid reader, collector, outdoor sportsman, and history buff. David had many interests. He was quite the history buff and collected militaria from the Civil War where his ancestors fought mostly for the Confederacy (but there were a few Union rowdys), and the Vietnam War, where he served as a helicopter pilot. After returning from Vietnam and settling down in Fort Worth, David met and married Demetra Anne "D'Anne" Derdeyn. After moving to San Antonio, Texas, they had two daughters, Kelli and April. He graduated from UTSA with a business degree, and retired from Civil Service after 32 years and the Army after 38 years. Between his reading, collecting, and love of history, David could answer most questions without hesitation. He was the "book of knowledge" for kids struggling with homework and was quickly designated the "phone a friend" when asked who you'd call if you were stumped on the Millionaire game show. He loved hunting and fishing, but above all he loved his family and was always there when they needed a helping hand. He will be truly missed by his wife of 38 years, D'Anne; his daughters, Kelli and her husband, Rob Weitzel; April and her friend, Katie Butler; and his grandchildren, Jack, Scarlett, and Scott. He also leaves his sister, Becky Grey; his mother and father-in-law, Jack and Demetra Derdeyn; brother-in-law, Les Derdeyn and his wife, Cynthia; his sister of affection, Jody Horan; and numerous nieces and nephews. David was also a grandfather of affection to Kennedy and Lleyton Drennon. He was an active member of Alamo Heights Baptist Church, Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association, the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the San Antonio Gun Club. David will always be remembered as a gentleman to his core, an able friend to many, a committed Christian, a stalwart patriot, a devoted husband, adoring father, and ardent grandfather. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Porter Loring Mortuary North. GRAVESIDE SERVICE WITH MILITARY HONORS MONDAY OCTOBER 31, 2016 1:15 P.M.
