Rae, (64), left us after a long illness on June
12, 2009, at Mesa Vista of Boulder, Colorado. He
began his life in Indianapolis, IN, on January 25,
1945. He is survived by his mother Katherine
Whiting Rae of New Haven CT, and preceded in
death by his father W. Douglas Rae, a longtime
Baptist minister at the First Baptist Church of
Bloomington, IN.
Duncan is survived by his daughter Lisa Rae (Nick
LeClercq) of Silver Plume, their daughters
Penelope and Daphne, and Lisa's mother Judith.
He is preceded in death by his son William Douglas
Rae, and survived by Willie's children Elizabeth
and Justice, and their mother Stacey (Wayne &
Jacob Williams) of Loveland. He is also survived
by his brother Doug Rae (D. Ellen Shuman) of New
Haven, CT, and Doug's children Hugh Rae (Karen)
of Glen Rock, NJ and their children Margret,
Patrick, Gavin, and Hugh James; Katie Rae-Chu
(Zen) of Brookline, MA, and their children Max,
Sam, and Vivian; and Kimberly Rae of Cambridge,
MA, and her children Michelle and Dustin.
He is also survived by his half -brother, Ted
Stansbury of Silver Lake, IN; a step-daughter Amy
Dumler (Matt), her daughters Ava Rose and Mia,
and her mother Linda. Also surviving are his Aunt
Beth Christ-Janer; her daughter Karey Christ-Janer
(Neal Garney) and granddaughter Karissa Gallo, all
of Boulder, and daughter Kathy Christ-Janer (Tim
DeHuff) of Trumbull, CT.
Duncan graduated from University School in
Bloomington in 1963; attended Murray State
University in KY in 1964-65; was a helicopter
pilot with the US Army 17th Air Cavalry from 1966
to 1970, and received the Distinguished Flying
Cross and a Purple Heart and for his service in
Vietnam. He lived in New Canaan, CT, with his
young family for 7 years and then moved to Boulder
in 1976. He worked for Boulder County Public
Works for many years, and later specialized in
medical facility renovations throughout the Denver
Metro area.
Friends and family would characterize Duncan as
having a radiant smile, a vivid sense of humor,
and a colorful personality. He never missed an
opportunity for a joke or a pun! He enjoyed a
competitive bridge game and the serenity of
growing geraniums or knitting. He was an avid
golfer and a passionate wood carver. Recently, he
lived in Hygiene. A special thanks to Nancy
Dayton for all her loving care.
Memorial services will be held at Ahlberg Funeral
Chapel on Saturday, June 27, 2009, at 11:00 am.
