More detail on this person: John L. Ricketts John L. Ricketts, 57, of Rock Island, formerly of Davenport, passed away Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gift of Hope, 660 N. Industrial Drive, Elmhurst, IL 60126. Those wishing to attend the service should meet at Runge Mortuary, Davenport, by 9:30 a.m. Thursday. He was born July 17, 1947, in Davenport, son of Richard and Eleanor Creviston Ricketts. Mr. Ricketts graduated from Davenport West High School and attended Palmer College and the University of Iowa. He served with distinction and honor in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, earning the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4, serving as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam and Germany. His service spanned the years from 1968 to 1991. In his last day on Earth, once again he helped people unknown to him. John gave the Gift of Hope with his living organs that others might live to be brothers and sisters. Survivors include parents, Richard and Irma Ricketts, Bettendorf; and siblings, Joseph Ricketts, Rebecca Kunz, Roger Ricketts, Mary Hesket, Dottie Hearne, Mark Bray and Jackie Dietz. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1967. (Rock Island Argus, Feb. 16, 2005)
