More detail on this person: Timothy John Reitz Timothy John Reitz, DVM, 66, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, of Plainview, Texas, formerly of North Platte, passed away on Aug. 30, 2010. Tim was born the youngest of four children, June 4, 1944, in Sutherland, to Christian and Rosa Reitz. He grew up in the Paxton community on the family farm south of town. He graduated from Paxton High School in 1962 and attended the Uni-versity of Nebraska-Lincoln. He later transferred to Kansas State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in History in 1969. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army upon graduation, and he attained the rank of Captain prior to his discharge. He was a helicopter pilot during the Viet Nam war, serving from 1971 to 1972. He received the Bronze Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He returned to Kansas State University in 1973 in a pre-vet curriculum and received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1978. He practiced in Cozad and Kimball and Lusk, Wyo., before mov-ing to North Platte in 1983. He established the Logan County Vet Clinic in 1988. He was working as a veterinarian for the USDA in Plainview, Texas, at the time of his death. Tim married Nancy Dyke on Sept. 7, 1968, and they had three daughters, Kristen, Erin and Amy. He cherished his children and granddaughters, and always encouraged them, no matter what their endeavors. Tim was very active in the Platte Valley Girls Softball Association. He loved watching his daughters play ball, and was the coach for the Twisters team for many years. He was an avid golfer, a dedicated hunter, and had his canine companion, Lucy, always at his side. Dr. Reitz is survived by his daughters, Kristen (Mike) McArtor, of Kansas City, Mo., Erin Reitz, of Seattle, Wash., and Amy (Steve) Dishman, of Lincoln; two granddaughters, Miranda and Alyson McArtor; two brothers, Richard (Phyllis) Reitz, of Mesa, Ariz., and Michael Reitz, of Farmington, N.M.; a sister, Rosalee Lewis, of La Quinta, Calif.; eleven nieces and nephews; his former wife, Nancy Michaels of North Platte; and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a niece, Delia Reitz; a sister-in-law, Isabell; and several aunts; uncles; and cous-ins. Memorials may be made to the Platte Valley Girls Softball Association or to the donor's choice and online condolences may be shared at adamsswanson.com Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at the Messiah Lutheran Church with the Rev. Tim Eighmy officiating. Tim's ashes will be scattered in his beloved Sandhills. He will be greatly missed.
