More detail on this person: Foy Rice was a Colonel who served in Vietnam as Commanding Officer of the 52nd Combat Aviation Battalion , Camp Holloway, Pleiku Vietnam. His command time was during 1966. Died in AZ as I recall. Foy Rice Foy Rice FOUNTAIN HILLS - Foy Rice, 64, retired U.S. Army colonel, died Nov. 12, 1985, at his Fountain Hills residence. Col. Rice, was born in Hollis, Okla., and moved to Arizona in 1977 from Korea. He was a career officer, retiring in 1978, and was a member of the 82nd Airborne Association, 508th Parachute Parachute Infantry Regiment Association and TROA Officers Association. He was awarded the French Legion of Merit, Legion of Merit, Silver Star and Purple Heart. Survivors include his sons, Kim M. and Kent D.; three sisters; a brother; and four grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road. Paradise Chapel Funeral Home made arrangements. Grave marker for Foy Rice in Section 19 Site 115, National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, Phoenix (Maricopa county), Arizona. Foy began his army career when he enlisted in the National Guard in 1940. He was subsequently awarded a commission and was a platoon leader with Company "I", 508th PIR. He was wounded in action in Holland on 23 September 1944 during Operation Market-Garden. He subsequently served in Korea. In Vietnam Lt Col Rice commanded the 52nd Combat Aviation Battalion which flew UH-1D "Huey" helicopters. Colonel Rice was a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College and of the US Army War College. In 1969 he authored a paper entitled "Retaining Warrant Officer Pilots"
