Riddle Jr., 73, of Williamsburg, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on May 18, 2012. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph E. Riddle Sr. Ralph proudly served in the U.S. Army as an Aviator. He served during the Vietnam Era, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal (22 awards), Vietnam Cross of Gallantry (3 awards) and Senior Aviator Badge. He retired at the rank of Major after 20 years of service. Following his retirement, he spent several years teaching in the Hampton City Public Schools. He then went on to complete his professional career with the U.S. Government's Defense Logistics Agency at Fort Eustis, Va., and Fort Lee, Va. Ralph received his bachelor's degree in Economics. He was an active member of PSHA, an avid golfer and a boating enthusiast. He was also a member of St. Stephen's Memorial Episcopal Church in Lynn, Mass. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Karin E. Riddle; son, Ralph J. Riddle and his wife, Karen J. Riddle; daughter, Sylvia K. Patrick; grandchildren, Amanda Elliott and Andrea Haack; mother, Amy Leavitt; sister, Judy Cona; and brother, Raymond Riddle. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg. Services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Parkway, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
