More detail on this person: W.L. RUNNELS, JR. PETAL Services were held Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Moore Funeral Home for Major Retired W. L. "Pete" Runnels, Jr., 60, of Petal, who died June 12 at Forrest General Hospital. Rev. Gary Shows officiated. Interment was in Highland Cemetery. Pallbearers were Scott Runnels, Jimmy Moudy, Ben Calhoun, Ronnie Baylis, and Bob Mangum. Mr. Runnels retired after 20 years in the U.S. Army, having served two stints in Vietnam. At the time of his death, he was a security officer for Wakenhut Security. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Hattiesburg. He was preceded in death by his father, W. L. Runnels. Survivors include his wife, Mona Lea Lovelady Runnels of Petal; a son, Scott Runnels of Nacogdoches, Texas; three daughters, Melissa Runnels of Austin, Texas, Tarah Mangum of Little Elm, Texas, and Ashley McGaughey of Lufkin, Texas; his mother, Naomi V. Runnels of Hattiesburg; a sister, Pamala D. Runnels of Birmingham, Alabama; and two grandchildren. Moore Funeral Home of Hattiesburg was in charge of arrangements.
