More detail on this person: David Kent Sickler, 60 DAVID KENT SICKLER Times Leader, The (Wilkes-Barre, PA) - Tuesday, May 22, 2001 David Kent Sickler, 60, of Hill Road, Shickshinny, Pa., died Saturday, May 19, 2001, in Fishing Creek Township, Columbia County. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, June 4, 1940, the son of Glenn Sickler, of Stillwater, Pa., and the late Naomi (Austin) Sickler. He was a member of the Town Hill United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Westmoreland High School, Trucksville. He joined the U.S. Army and went to Army Flight School at Fort Wolters, Texas and Fort Rucker, Ala. He served three tours in Vietnam, 1965 to 1966, 1968, and 1971 to 1972. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, 32 Air Medals with V for valor. He received the Army Commendation Medal with four clusters, Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal with three stars, Vietnamese Medal of Honor and numerous unit citations. He retired with the rank of chief warrant officer in 1978. He was employed for the past 15 years as aviation department manager and chief pilot for General Foam Plastics Corp. in Norfolk, Va. He was a member of the 114th Aviation Company Association, Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association and a past member of the Vietnam Veterans of America. He owned and operated Maple Ridge Farm in Southdale, raised corn and soy bean crops and did custom farming. He was a Chemgro Seed dealer. He served on the Board of Directors of the Luzerne County Farm Bureau and was a current member of Columbia County Farm Bureau and member of Pennsylvania Farm Bureau Promotion and Education Committee. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a loyal and caring friend, always there for those in need. He not only leaves his family, but a host of friends that were touched by his wonderful caring, his sense of humor and his sense of duty to family, friends and country. He shall be missed. Surviving are his wife of 33 years, the former Patricia Eboli; daughter, Melissa Yerke, and son-in-law, Austin Yerke, Plymouth, Pa.; daughters, Debra Sickler, Clearwater, Fla.; and Brenda Redmond, Lake McQueeney, Texas; sons, Michael Sickler, Tucson, Ariz.; and Christopher McKellar, San Antonio, Texas; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sister, Joan Cotto, Westin, Fla. He was preceded in death by his mother, and a sister, Bonnie Roeland. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2001, at Carverton United Methodist Church, Church Road, Carverton, at 3 p.m., with Rev. Jackson Cox, his pastor, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 300 Mulberry St., Suite 305, Scranton, Pa., 18503. Funeral arrangements are by the Clarke Piatt Funeral Home Inc., 6 Sunset Lake Road, Hunlock Creek, Pa.
