Bob was flying a Bell Jet Ranger for the U. S.
Forestry Service when he and his crew chief were
killed in a crash on 11/27/1999 near Jackson, MS.
There was a mechanical failure of some sort that
Bell ended up compensating Pat and the crew
chief's family.
You may find this interesting, what brought Bob up
was I recently wrote an article for the Aviator
magazine "So Few Vets" and to make a long story
short, received an email from a guy in Bob's unit
in Vietnam.
Let me know if you want or need more info on
Robert M. "Bob" Smith. He was the first guy I met
when I signed in to Armor Officers Basic at Fort
Knox and we decide to go to flight school. He
really was my best friend and I miss him dearly!
