More detail on this person: James E Sewell, 62 DEATHS Birmingham News (AL) - Sunday, January 25, 2004 SEWELL, JAMES E., age 62, born September 26, 1941 in Bessemer, Alabama to Boyd and Ila Mae Sewell. Mr. Sewell passed away on January 24, 2004, surrounded by his family, after a long battle with cancer. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving three tours in southeast Asia where he piloted various types of aircraft. He was a decorated officer receiving Medals of Honor and Bravery. Upon his retirement he worked as a Systems Analyst for Lockheed Aviation and later as a Marketing Analyst for Martin- Marietta. He was a member of Providence Church of Vestavia Hills where he served as a Pastor Ministry Assistant. "He was admired by many and was an inspiration to all by demonstrating Christ's love, compassion and strength." He was preceded in death by his father Boyd Sewell. He is survived by his wife of 7 years, Karen Sewell, his daughters and son-in-law; Melissa and Hutch Cecchi of Thompsonville, Ill. and Teresa Sewell of Lausanne, Switzerland, Grandchildren; Autumn, Jessica, Ryan, Ashely, Cody and Hunter, his Mother; Ila Mae Sewell of Birmingham, Al., Brother and sister-in-law; Tim and Nancy Sewell and niece Jody Sewell all of Columbus, Ms., Step-sons and daughters-in-law; Tim and Angi Baggett of DeRidder, La and Stephen and Jessica Baggett and Jonathan Baggett all of Birmingham, Al., step-grandchildren; Drew, Seth, Ethan and Claire, several aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday January 27,2004 at 2:00 PM at Ridout's Southern Heritage Chapel. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 PM at the funeral home on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers the family request's memorial contributions be made to an Agent Orange Advocacy in his honor ; National Veterans Service Fund, In Memory of James E. Sewell
