More detail on this person: Jack Burton Smith, 69 Jack Burton Smith American Press (Lake Charles, LA) - Wednesday, August 29, 2007 Jack Burton Smith, 69, of Alexandria, Va., died Aug. 7, 2007, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Jack graduated from LaGrange High School in 1956 and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from McNeese State University. Before entering the Army, he was a proofreaderforthe American Press. Jack was an administrative judge with the Defense Office of Hearings and Appeals prior to his retirement. Burt was also a highly decorated Vietnam War veteran, having received numerous commendations and medals, including two Distinguished Flying Crosses, the Purple Heart, Silver Star, Bronze Star, Air Medal with 24th Award, the Army Commendation Medal of Valor, and the Gallantry Cross with Silver Star. He was awarded the Office of the Secretary of Defense Civilian Service Award for exceptionally outstanding service for the period from February 1985 through December 1993. Survivors include his loving wife, Elena Stulina of Alexandria; one son, Brannon (Renee) Smith of Wilmington, N.C.; two daughters, Ginger Smith of Denver, Colo., and Bonnie (Scott) Stephens of Centreville; two brothers, Tommy and Jim Smith of Texas; and eight grandchildren. Graveside and interment services were held Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, in Stonewall Memory Gardens, 12004 Lee Highway, Manassas, VA. The Rev. Carl Rush officiated. Arrangements are under the direction of the Baker Funeral Home, Manassas, Va.
