know of my dad's death. Kenneth James George
Sullivan, Sr, Lt. Colonel US Army, Retired, passed
away this past Sunday night and will have a full
military burial on Saturday, July 11th. His
obituary with the funeral arrangements are
attached. Please get the word out in case any one
wants to attend.

Lenoir - Lieutenant Colonel Kenneth James George
Sullivan, Sr., USA, Retired passed away peacefully
at Hospice and Palliative Care of Caldwell County,
July 5, 2015. He was born in Lenoir, NC, August
15, 1934 to the late Thomas Lee Sullivan, Sr. and
Lucy Smith Sullivan.
Ken was married to Delphine Cochrane Sullivan,
and they had three children who survive him,
Kenneth James George Sullivan, Jr. of Loveland,
Colorado, Dr. Daniel Bruce Sullivan of Delray
Beach, Florida, and Elizabeth Sullivan Scott of
Cary, NC., and five grandchildren_Jordan Sullivan,
Ryan Sullivan, Samantha Sullivan, Micaelah Scott,
and Noah Scott.
In addition to his parents, Ken was pre-deceased
by his older brother Thomas (Tom) L Sullivan Jr.
He is survived by siblings Carroll M Sullivan of
Morganton, Rev Gwyn P Sullivan of Granite Falls,
Winona Sullivan Mace of Simpsonville, SC, Marcus
H Sullivan of Hudson, Betty Sullivan Pennell of
Mooresville, and John S Sullivan of Charlotte, as
well as many nieces and nephews.
Ken graduated from Hudson High School in 1952
and attended Western Carolina Teachers College
on a football scholarship. He joined the US Army
June 2, 1954 and thus began his career in the
military. His service included tours of duty in
Germany, Korea, and two tours of duty in Vietnam
where he was a helicopter pilot. During the
Vietnam Tet Offensive in 1968, he received wounds
during a night attack at his base for which he
received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
After recovering from his wounds at Walter Reed
National Military Medical Center, he completed his
Bachelor of Arts degree in History at the
University of Nebraska, and was later assigned as
the Inspector General to the U.S. Army in Puerto
Rico. He retired from the U.S. Army on July 31,
1974 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and he
returned to his home in Lenoir.
Mr. Sullivan was a member of First Baptist Church,
Hudson, where he was a member of the Berean
Sunday School Class.
A celebration of Mr. Sullivan's life will be held
at First Baptist Church of Hudson on Saturday,
July 11, 2015 with the Rev Wade Dellinger
officiating. The family will receive friends from
1:00 pm until 2:30 pm, with the service
immediately following. A full military burial will
follow at the church cemetery.
The family respectfully requests that in lieu of
flowers, memorials may be sent to The Baptist Men
of First Baptist Church, Hudson or Caldwell
