More detail on this person: Dennis Lynn Stedman, 74, passed away on the evening of October 6, 2012, surrounded by his family, at his home in Moore, OK. Lynn was born in Edmond, OK, January 2, 1938, to Virgil & Ila Stedman. He graduated from Madill High School in 1956 and attended the University of Oklahoma for two years. Lynn was a long-standing Mason with the Mustang Masonic Lodge #407, serving as a Past Master. He also was a 32nd degree Shriner. He served 28 years with the Oklahoma Army National Guard as a Helicopter Pilot, including 17 months active duty with the Guard in Tulsa, OK as a Night Vision Goggle Instructor Pilot. In 2000, Lynn retired from OG&E as Supervisor of Metro Control Center with 32 years of combined service. After working for 16 years on the line crew, substation department, and as a dispatcher, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of being in law enforcement. He helped establish the Mustang Auxiliary Police Department and ended that career as Captain. Spanning nine years, he served in Canadian County as a Deputy, Undersheriff and Sheriff. He was recently interviewed by Keith Morrison from Dateline and appeared on the show covering a high profile case during his term as Sheriff. He returned to OG&E to finish his career. During his brief retirement, he was an active Chairman of the Planning Commission and on the Board of Adjustments for the City of Moore. After encouragement from fellow law enforcement friends, he accepted the challenge of being a Court Security Guard at the Federal Courthouse in downtown Oklahoma City. He worked there until his diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia, which he bravely fought for 15 months. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Beverly; four daughters, Kalynne Stedman Johnson (Harold), Kathryn Stedman-Troxell (Kevin), Cindy Jones Hooper (Walter), Christi Jones Roney (Kevin); seven grandchildren, Kila (Cody), Dawn (Paul), Kimberlee (Justin), Hadyn, Taylor, Lillie, and Landon; and four great-grandchildren, Koltyn, Preslie, Kayton, P.J., and Lynnon on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, George Ann Ewing; and grandson, Chad Troxell. Viewing will be held at Vondel L. Smith & Son Mortuary, 4000 S.W. 119th St., OKC, Tuesday, 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Moore.
